Recent studies shows sleeve gastrectomy results in Barrett's esophagus. Should we be worried?
Genco et al (Surg Obes Relat Dis Apr;13 (4): 568-74 2017): The incidence of erosive esophagitis and Barretts esophagus were increased compared to pre-operative values. New onset of non dysplastic Barretts esophagus was found in 17% of patients.
Braghetto and Csendes (Obes Surg Apr;26(4): 710-4 2016) showed in 231 patients after Sleeve gastrectomy that erosive esophagitis and Barrett's esophagus (with metapasia) occurred in 15% and 1.2% respectively.
